Is Artis about to become a theme park in a historic residential neighbourhood?
Artis is a small zoo, right in the middle of a residential neighbourhood. It's that very neighbourhood that bears the consequences of the plans. The neighbourhood loves Artis — but is deeply concerned.
Artis wants to grow:

More visitors — from 1.3 million per year to hundreds of thousands more. In summer, up to 10,000 a day.

More evening openings — events for special audiences and businesses.

Even more food and drink — alongside existing restaurants, new ones are planned at the Planetarium and the Salmhuisjes on Sarphatistraat.

Gigantic high-rise — on the corner of Entrepotdok/Sarphatistraat.

Large parking garage — on the corner of Entrepotdok/Plantage Kerklaan — even though a garage in the city centre is known to attract extra traffic.
What does this mean for the neighbourhood?
Much more noise
Especially on beautiful summer days and evenings.
Massive high-rise
On the edges of the park.
Less greenery
